Filey and Scarborough Trust for Recycling Ltd, Registered No. 5628224 Originally founded out of concern for the large amount of usable surplus items which end up in landfill rather than being re-used or recycled, our service has expanded in response to local community needs and increasing environmental concerns. We are a small, friendly organisation; currently in the process of being incorporated into a not-for-profit Company Limited by Guarantee, and are experts at finding uses for unwanted items, including many which would otherwise end up in landfill sites. By working with like-minded individuals, organisations and charities we can recycle or re-home nearly everything we are asked to dispose of. Many items are donated to organisations who help the disadvantaged. Unsaleable wooden furniture finds new uses in everything from DIY projects to garden products! Clothing and bedding are sent to a charity that sends them out to people who need them in countries such as Romania and the Chernobyl region. Glass and paper etc. are sorted and taken to recycling centres. We provide a service which collects a wide range of items for re-use and recycling, clears deceased effects and removes surplus items from houses that have been sold. Many of the people we meet in our work are both surprised and comforted to find that we are able to recycle or re-home items that had belonged to their loved ones. We are Licensed Waste Carriers and so we are able to clear everything, including rubbish, so our service is complete. We are setting
up workshops in the Filey and Scarborough areas so that we can refurbish
electrical items and furniture in need of restoration. We already complement
existing local furniture projects, however no one in the area currently
supplies low income groups with safety tested electrical items such as fridges.
It is much better to re-use an item than recycle it. Impending government and EU legislation about electrical and other waste items means that we will be able to expand further and create more employment opportunities for local people. Because we already dispose of this type of item in an environmentally sound way we are well positioned to help large companies and local authorities reach their recycling targets. We are also going to run short courses, open to all, to allow people to learn the skills required to renovate their own furniture and other items, so increasing the life span of many products. |
